App design for today’s workforce

JobGet is a job app for hourly workers. In 2022, it needed a refresh that would appeal to the young, creative hourly workforce as well as the uber-busy managers looking to hire fast and often.

My team and I revamped the design system, focusing on making it fun to use. A bold color palette and playful details bring it into the present.

Designing for a restrictive hardware interface

For the latest generation of the SimpliSafe keypad, I was challenged with fitting all the functionality of a security system into a simple screen interface. With only the numeric keypad and up / down / left / right buttons to interact with, users needed to be able to install their system, name their sensors, change settings, and more. I created a layered menu system that solved all the needs of our current users, and built a flexible design system that would be easy to add on to for years to come.

An app built for emergencies

SimpliSafe’s mobile app needs to work seamlessly with the home security devices in users’ homes. So for the 2016 redesign, I replaced the dashboard with something that tells them at a glance if “Everything is OK,” and looks and functions like the arm and disarm buttons on their security system’s keypad. The result is something that works every day, but especially in moments of crisis.

A sitewide rebrand

The launch of a new generation of products meant the opportunity for a complete overhaul of the SimpliSafe e-commerce site experience. The challenge was updating the brand look and feel while maintaining the hard-won conversion rate we’d gained over the years. We took the time to develop guidelines that would last for years.

A simplified installation experience

For a tech company, one of the biggest brand touchpoints for a customer is their installation experience. My specialty was taking a complicated set of instructions full of engineering jargon and turning it into a straightforward and user-friendly guide using simple language and easy to understand illustrations.
